What's New?????
February 2012 Webb Family
Motorsports is pleased to announce that we are currently putting together our
second car. This chassis will be
the permanent home of the 1982 Corvette body and will be driven by both Jeremy
Jelinski (our assistant crew chief) and Scott Bourdin.
Both of which have extensive knowledge of the vehicles and have worked on
the team for several years. We look forward to
the new season and the licensing of these two up and coming drivers.
What an exciting year it will be. The
1970 Nova will stay on the current chassis and be driven by Darrell (The Burnout
King) Webb on a permanent basis. Stay tuned for
information on the team as we finalize our 2012 race Schedule. And make sure you
like us on Facebook as well to participate in this year’s contest for
“Honorary Crew for the day” which is currently up and running.
January 2012 Happy New Year!!!! It's that time of year for the guys to be heading to the garage to get to work on the car. Race season is just around the corner..... well, 5 months or so away, but it will come fast.

Seasons Greetings
The
entire crew of Webb Family Motorsports would like to wish everyone a safe and
happy holiday season and best wishes for 2012.
End of Season 2011 Well
race fans, what can I say? LIFE
HAPPENS. I could sit here for a
while and make excuses why this site has been left alone for so long, but for
those of you in this sport know that once the race is over you tend to take some
breathing time before jumping back in. My
time was just a little longer than some. Anyway,
I’m now jumping back in with the review of the rest of the season. Grand
Prairie was a great weekend. The weather was perfect and the cars ran
great. This event saw Cody Anstead as the overall winner, taking our both
Darrell and Sherrie in their respective rounds. The
next race was in Saskatoon, what a great time.
14 Feature Cars did their thing for the fans and the attendance was
phenomenal. Record crowd for this
event so I am sure they will continue to provide this type of show next year.
As these events are always match races and we don’t officially keep
track of the winners and losers, I’m pretty sure Sherrie kicked everyone’s
butt at her home track. We could say it was home team advantage, I just think she’s
a damn good driver. Last
official IBAA event of the year was in Drayton Valley.
We ran up against the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car Association and
with this being a 7.50 index due to insurance reasons, everyone was ready for a
low maintenance weekend. Everyone
ran great, hit the index with no issues and put on a great long & loud smoky
burnout show for the fans. Can’t
thank all the volunteers and organizers enough that put this event on. It
is run well and seems to get more and more people out every year.
Keep it up guys & gals. We
had our year end BBQ to celebrate another super year of racing and some even had
a great view of the Drayton Valley sunrise. The
last kick at the cat that wasn’t an IBAA race, but was attended by Cody
Anstead, driver of the Twisted Motosports ’69
Camaro and Darrell “The Burnout King” Webb in his ’70 Nova. Together
they made the long trek to Bakersfield California for the “20th
Annual California Hot Rod Reunion” at Famosa Raceway.
The weather was fantastic, the cars were spectacular and the fans came
out in droves. The
track staff were awesome and treated us great. The track itself was in great condition and we had our work
was cut out for us. Our first round
was not what we expected, both Darrell and Cody didn’t hit even close to the
number we were hoping for and given the fact that both cars had blower issues
didn’t help much either. Second
round was tense. The bump was a
7.074 for a sixteen car field. So…
by the time we made our pass the bump was now at a 7.052 and although both teams
did the best they could, as usual mechanical issues reared their ugly heads and
neither team qualified. Cody’s
car seemed to be a good lick, but nosed over at the top end almost as if it just
ran out of steam. Darrell ran a
7.08 losing the blower belt at the 1000 foot mark. Just not our turn I guess.
We plan on attending next year’s event and will definitely kick some
butt. Met some great people there
and hope to see them again next year.
Photo album updated......
August 20, 2011 This weekend you will find the us in Grande Prairie. Sherrie Bodnarchuk, Darrell Webb and Cody Anstead are warming up the cars in the pits getting ready for first round at 1:00. Looks like we are going to have a great weekend of weather for racing. Great racing, great weekend. We put on a a great show. The track was a bit slippery, but we managed to get down with some pretty good numbers. As usually we had long smoky burnouts and the crowd love it. Congratulations to Twisted Motorsports getting down the track with 3 full passes and times getting back in the mid 7's. Next race finds us in Saskatoon for this coming weekend - Saturday night August 27.
July 9, 2011 Ft. St. John, BC.... cancelled Well, once again Mother Nature is totally against us. Another rainout. Three of the IBAA team as sitting at the Paradise RV shop in Grande Prairie with nothing to do, but... yup...... PARTY!!!!! We aren't getting a lot of racing in this year, but we are having a great time.
Next race...... August 10th - Hot August Night in Edmonton AB June 26, 2011 Rocky Mountain Nationals continued..... After 3 qualifying passes, Darrell ended up at #5 at 7.113 and Sherrie was #7 with a 7.176 First round saw Darrell meet Eddy Plaizier of the RMNFC. Unfortunately the starter decided it didn't want to work today so Darrell was unable to make the pass leaving the win to Eddy. That's it for us for this years Rocky Mountain Nationals. Everyone had a great time. Lots of food and drinks. Thanks so much to Menno of Western Camp Services for all the awesome catered food this weekend. As usual that IHRA officials were great to work with. Thanks to everyone that came out to watch. Next race is July 9 in Ft. St. John, BC
June 25, 2011 Rocky Mountain Nationals from Edmonton, AB.
Today the weather is not great, but it dry and we were able to make a qualifying pass around 2:00. Darrell had a good first pass running 7.113 at 193.38 MPH. This puts Darrell as #4 qualifier. #2 qualifying is at 6:00 for the Pro Show.... let the rain stay away. June 19, 2011 Happy Father's Day from Calgary AB. Saturdays race was called on due to rain so needless to say a good time partying was had by all. The weather has been much better today - the sun is shining and with only a couple of quick sun showers the race is going on as scheduled. We just made our first pass of the year. Not the best run of his career, but the tree was not set to a Pro Tree so it may have thrown his timing off a bit. The track is rough in a couple of spots so it wasn't stellar pass. The burnout was good and all the cars made it down the track with no issues. Cody Anstead and Darrell Webb were the first pair out followed by Sherrie Bodnarchuk. Our next pass will be around 3:30 this afternoon. 3:30 pass ran around 4:30 - first pair up was Darrell and Sherrie. They both did a nice long smokey burnout that we are known for. They backed up and.... you guessed it.... rain. Shut them down and pushed them back. By the look of the sky it wasn't going to stop so the track staff decided it best to just run the jet cars for a line show and we were done. Luckily the rain stopped and we were able to run the 3 funny cars that were available for this race. This pass was better now knowing the track conditions. He ran a good ET at fairly high MPH. We are ready for the Rocky Mountain Nationals. Once back in the pits we had to get the cars packed up quick because the skies opened up and it poured rain for 30 minutes or so... everything was wet a muddy to finish packing. That's racing! We need to get Mother Nature back as a drag racing fan so she will spread sunshine on the weekends for us to run. Thanks to the Calgary track staff and volunteers. The weekend turned out to be a good race.
June 2, 2011 We spent last weekend at Castrol Raceway making a few test passes and as always, we were glad to get the first run jitters out of the way. Our first pass was a 7.64 @ 184 and the second one was a 7.44 @ 189. The last run on Sunday was incomplete when we had transmission problems. The car wasn’t sitting right on the groove and the car made a sharp move to the right and then rolled over a sprag in the Lenco. will fix it by replacing those gears with bigger better ones and will be ready for our match race in Ashcroft against Jay Mageau and his Nitro Corvette. Should be a fair run, he will either give us a head start or lift at the thousand foot mark. Either way, we are going to have a blast. Check out the schedule to see if we will be in your area.
2011 race season is about to begin..... It is May already and we are still waiting for a few parts to get back so we can thrash to get the car ready for testing. Our first race will be in Ashcroft BC in June against long time friend and previous member Jay Mageau. Jay is now running Nitro, but plans detune the car to run against Darrell to get them a show that has never been done before. We have a tentative schedule put together, but are still waiting for confirmation from a few tracks. September long weekend has a few race options.... possibilities are Gimili, MB or Drayton Valley, AB or Edmonton, AB. We are currently negotiating with all three tracks for that weekend and will update with the confirmed location once everything is in place.
September 22, 2010 Where has the year gone? A
big apology goes out to WFM fans and sponsors for not having the website updated
on a more regular basis. All updates and photos have now been added. The season may be officially over for our regular races, but there is still one left we are planning to attend.... Bakersfield CA. Yes that's right. After many years of going to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso Raceway as fans, this year we are going to race. We are going together with a few other IBAA members and will show the Americans what a long burnout really is. We head out on October 8th to make the long trek. We'll make a stop at Luca Oil Products in Corona CA to do a display early in the week and then onto Bakersfield for October 15, 16, & 17. Wish us luck, it is going to be an experience we won’t forget. September 19, 2010 Last weekend although very windy and cold it was dry for a change. We went out to Castrol Raceway to watch Jeremy, our nephew and crew member, license in the Paradise RV 2 seat dragster. Jeremy was both nervous and excited about driving as this would be his first time ever in a race car. He was awesome. Five passes later he is fully licensed and can now submit all the paperwork he needs to get an IHRA license. In the spring, he make a few passes in the funny car for his advanced ET. Look out Darrell, you may lose your seat. A great big Thank You to Craig Anstead of Paradise RV and crew for letting us use the car and helping Jeremy get his license. You guys are the best!
September 11 & 12,
2010 I can’t tell you how many people said to me, “where do you race in Vegreville?” The answer is at the town airport. This track was amazingly smooth. Not to mention the traction that we got. Of the 3 passes that we made the first was in the right lane. We were a bit concerned about traction but Darrell thought he would just go for it and see what happened. We ran a 7.64 @ 183mph. Even Darren, the race organizer was surprised that we hooked that well. The left lane unfortunately had traction, but not right at the starting line. We just sat and spun until we got out of the hole and then it just took off. That being said, they definitely have potential of having a terrific alternative to racing at the major tracks in Alberta. Kudos to the Vegreville Drag Racing Association for a great job preparing for the event. We had a blast.
September 7, 2010 It is amazing how times flies. This was Drayton Valley’s 7th event and we have attended every one of them. The amount of things they have learned about drag racing over the years definitely shows. The track personnel are great to work with and always ensure we are happy with the program. We in turn ensure they are getting their monies worth with our show. Cody Anstead and Darrell Webb were invited to race along with the RMNFCA to put on the annual event “Thunder in the Valley”. Hardy people live in Drayton. It was cold with the threat of rain, yet everyone was there in there winter woolies to watch the cars do their thing. It was a great success with both Darrell and Cody running the numbers on a 7:50 index. Once again, the King of the burnouts and the young natural born driver would face off to see who was the best over the weekend. Given the index and although Cody crossed the line first, a breakout doesn’t make a win. The results are inconclusive, so we called it a tie. Besides, it’s the show that matters right guys??? Next, we are off to Vegreville, AB. Stay tuned for updates.
August 21, 2010 Once again Saskatoon put on a fabulous show. We always enjoy going to Saskatoon as the fans recognize our car and come up and welcome us back every year. This is an event that no matter how many people are in the stands, they are making enough noise for an entire stadium. We managed to put on a bit more of showy show than usual when the car made an abrupt right and crossed the line and followed the other car down the track. Excitement to say the least. The rest of the runs were not perfect, however we were having difficulty finding the sweet spot for launching. Better luck next year.
August 11, 2010 The is one of the best events of the year and this year the weather was actually hot. The crowd is huge and the fans are pumped to see some of the best cars running in the area. Darrell ran with three others for the IBAA who were all eager to get out there and put on a show for the fans. Running this event as a match race on a 7.20 index is the most fun anyone can have. Fun competition against friends, it can’t get any better than that. Darrell ran against Cody Anstead. The master and the apprentice... man that kid learns fast. As this was Cody’s first pass since a tear down for repair, it was moderate, a 7.64 to Darrell’s 7.42 still proved to be a great race to watch. Hope everyone had a as much fun as we did.
August 1 & 2, 2010 This past long weekend we crossed the provinces to Gimli Manitoba. This race track, which most consider an airport, is nothing of the sort. The Gimli race track, once a runway for their airport, has been a drag strip longer than people can remember and is capable of holding on to low 7’s and high 6 numbers. We were running on a 7.20 index and it became clear when we made our first pass that this was quite possible. We ran 5 runs over the weekend for the fans and they were extremely happy as was the track management. We hope to be invited back next year, this time we will take a few extra days to camp at the Narrows along the way.
July 19, 2010 Not many people from Alberta know where Yorkton is, but no one can say that just because you don’t have a huge facility to race at that you can’t have the enthusiasm needed to race. The folks in Yorkton have the airport available to them, which they have made into their own playground. Nice cars, very nice people and the fans are incredible. There were more people at this event than I have seen at general races in Vegas. This match race saw Sherrie winning the first round on this 1/8 mile track and Darrell losing the second to Sherrie’s hole shot. Good thing Darrell doesn’t mind being beat by a girl. The crowd loved the smoke and noise and both Darrell and Sherrie handed out over 300 handout cards. We are looking forward to going back next year.
July 13, 2010 CAN YOU SAY HOT!!!!!
Ashcroft, BC was the hot spot in Canada on Saturday July 11, 2010. The crew was definitely not envious of having to put on a 5 layer driving suit to race. Darrell isn’t used to racing in weather that bends the thermometer needle over the 38 C (101 F). Although this doesn’t compare to some places in the states that go over the 40 degree mark, it was still not what we were expecting. Despite the heat, the car ran excellent. This match race between Darrell and Cody Anstead, an IBAA team mate, was a ton of fun. The fans and racers were there in high spirits to encourage us when doing our long smoky burnouts. Cody has learned well from the master as seen in the photo gallery. Running this event on a 7.50 index, we ran a 7.64 @ 153mph Saturday afternoon. The mph being a little off, we checked out a few things and Sunday’s first pass was a 7.493 @ 188 mph, just under the index. The next run was a little bit faster at 7.43 @ 191 mph. I’m just going to say the weather threw us for a loop on the tune up. However, great data was acquired for our next visit in August. Special thanks to Brad and Heather Janishewski for their hospitality on Friday and Saturday night with all the food and fun times. Next stop, Yorkton Saskachewan to
take on Sherrie Bodnarchuk. July 17&18.
Updates will be available next week. June 28, 2010 The Rocky Mountain Nationals are now in the books and we are one of the headliners. What a great weekend! The Pro Nostalgia 7.20 class was short one car for an eight car field and we took advantage of every angle we could. Due to Mother Nature once again rearing her ugly head, we weren’t able to make our qualifying passes on the Friday night. Saturday, the track members were running the program extremely well and managed to get us an early time trial Saturday afternoon, when we weren’t scheduled until 7:00 and 9:15p.m. With the team tuning the car to almost the exact number of 7.20, we qualified number one with a 7.22 @ 194 mph. We woke up Sunday to a beautiful day and the hopes of going to the finals. Being short one car in the field and being number one we got a bye into the semi finals. The car ran great and we felt the energy building for the next round. Second round, we were up against Cory Kincaid, who managed the burn-out, but due to drive shaft issues had to shut down at the line allowing us to run a single. Now we are pumped because we are going to the final round against Cody Anstead (18 years old) with Paradise RV Racing. This was Cody's first race with their new Funny Car and he had been on his game all weekend. They too had the car running very close to the index. Final round, Darrell left on Cody at the starting line and took the win with a 7.30 to Cody’s 7.24. Special Thanks to Bob and Jeremy for tuning the car to perfection, Sandy for all the great photos and organizing the group and to our Mom’s for being there for support. To Dad, even though you aren’t here, your spirit took us to the Winners circle. This ones for you, we miss you. Also, our thanks to all the Staff at Castrol Raceway and the IHRA track officials for putting on another great weekend. WOOOHOOO….WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!! June 11, 2010 We finally have the first runs under our belt. We hit the track last weekend and made three passes. Right out the box was a 7.84. Not quite what we were looking for, but not bad considering it was just put back together. Second pass was better at a 7.66 and then a 7.69 for the third. The car ran straight and strong. We will do some changes for the Rocky Mountain Nationals in order to get to the 7.20 index as slated for that race. We are looking forward to another exciting year. So race fans, stay tuned for more details on the upcoming events. Check out the schedule to see when we are in your area. PLEASE NOTE: CALGARY RACE FOR JUNE 19 & 20 HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICESee you at the track. June 7, 2010 Sorry all.... we've had some issues with the website. Changing Hosts is a big pain in the butt, but we're back online. We finally got out to do some testing on the weekend so will get some details and photos up soon. Also the schedule will be up in the next couple of days.... thanks for hanging in there and checking back.
2009 Stuff
From all of us at the IBAA we want to wish all of our fans, supporters and tracks a very special holiday season and a happy New Year in 2010. Thunder in the Valley - Drayton Valley AB, September 5 & 6, 2009 Our next race is coming soon at the Drayton Valley airport. Saturday qualifying and Sunday eliminations. Alcohol Feature Race - Saskatoon, SK, August 22, 2009 We loaded up and headed east to good ole Saskatchewan for our annual visit to SIR. We always look forward to this race. Skippy and his crew did a great job of keeping the track in shape for our cars to stay in the groove. With a bit of a change to the program this year, Skippy decided to give the fans a bonus show and had all the IBAA cars run all 5 rounds for more Funny Car action. The club still ran the usual elimination passes for points within these rounds. Darrell qualified #7 with an 8.05. The end result proved to be much better than his qualifying. Once again, it was Darrell & Eddy in the final a little after 10 pm... #1 and #2 in the points battle it out. After some side by side smoky burnouts, the smoke cleared to an amazing double breakout win for Darrell by 1 thousand of a second 7.477 over Eddy Plaizier 7.476 Hot August Nights - Edmonton, August 12, 2009 As usual the stands were full for this event. Darrell dusted of the Corvette and mounted it back on the chassis for this race. It seems there is a 50/50 split on which body is a fan favorite. (Some crew too!) This was just a match race event. Just 2 passes for the night with the usual long smoky burnouts. We had a blast. NHRA National Open - Mission BC, July 25 & 26 Just like Medicine Hat, Mission proved to be a hot one. We arrived Friday in anticipation for a great race Saturday. Turned out we didn't run until Saturday night 6 and 9. We didn't know that the weather in Mission had been hot and humid for a week already so of course that meant... yup Thunderstorm. The rain hit us at 5:30 and they ended up having to call the race for the day. We got our first and only qualifying hit on Sunday at Noon and went right into eliminations. Darrell qualified #6, but went out first round. He managed to retain his #2 spot in the points. IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals - Edmonton, July 3, 4 & 5 The weather was awesome other than the short burst of rain late Saturday afternoon. There were 15 cars in the Pro Nostalgia class this year running a 16 car field. Darrell qualified #6 and made it to the second round of eliminations. We'll be back again next year to try for the Ironman. CMDRA Bike Drags, Edmonton June 27 & 28, 2009 The following weekend was back in Edmonton for the Bike Drags June 27 & 28th. Back into the points racing. It was almost deja vu from Medicine Hat with the pairing right to the final with Darrell Webb and Eddy Plaizier in the final. It may have been a close race if Darrell hadn't done a 5' wheelie off the starting line and running and 18.25 pass giving the win to Eddy. Go to www.youtube.com for a video of Darrell's wheelie. Results for this: (W) D. Webb 7.398 (L) R. Elliott 7.460 (L) D. Webb 18.283 Darrell is now sitting at #2 in the ACE Manufacturing Pro Alcohol Funny Car Point Series 9 points behind Eddy Plaizier. Father's Day - Calgary June 20 & 21, 2009 We headed down to Calgary to put on a show for what may be their last year of racing. With the future of the track questionable we wanted to support their efforts to retain a fan base. Due the condition of the track, this race was ran as an 1/8 mile on a 3.70 index. The track crew did an awesome job of prepping the track surface to ensure we were able to put on the best show possible. We hope to see racing continue in the city of Calgary. Medicine Hat - June 13 & 14, 2009 Medicine Hat was a scorcher! This was the first run down the track with the new engine combination so we had no idea how the car would perform. Also, with a new pedal clutch instead of the centrifugal clutch.... how would the reaction time be??? As it turned out, it may not have been Darrell sleeping at the tree all of these years.... reaction times were great. The first qualifying pass was a bit different than our normal passes... most cars bounced down the track as it was found the track temperature was 130F so it was a bit slippery. Most cars ran in the 8's, but Darrell managed to pull off the #2 position with a 7.64. Eliminations found the track temperatures much cooler and in much better shape to allow Darrell to make 3 great passes and take the first win of the six point series events. Results were: Round 1: Round 2: Round 3: Darrell is sitting at #1 in the ACE Manufacturing Pro Alcohol Funny Car Point Series. 2009 Season has arrived. We were out at Castrol Raceway on the weekend to test out the new combination and the new pedal clutch. The weather was so cold. The first round out, well let's just say the driver had butterflies and started out in high gear.... doesn't make for a very fast pass. Darrell ran a 10.32. Next time out proved to be a great long smoky burnout, however that was it. Past half track Darrell had to hit the Mag Kill to shut down because there was no oil pressure. Turns out the drive to the oil pump broke. The guys spent most of Sunday getting parts and putting things back together to find there was no spark so no passes were made on Sunday. Could be due to the cold weather the engine just didn't want to turn over fast enough to fire. Everything was packed up for home and some heat. Hopefully all will work out and be back together for our trek to Medicine Hat this weekend. The 2009 schedule is posted.
September 4, 2008Sad news... We knew we broke 2 connecting rods, put a few holes in the pan and chipped up the crank. A lot of work, but an easy fix. We hoped for the best, but we got the news today... the block is cracked. Unfortunately this means we will not be able to make it to the final race of the year. We will be out at the track to cheer on our IBAA team members, but we will not be able to race.... this is the first time ever, we have not made a race. Thanks to all of our fans and supporters for a great season and we will be back out in full force next year. Photos will be posted soon. September 1, 2008This past weekend we were in Drayton Valley at their annual “Thunder in the Valley” drag race event. They had a huge crowd for both days and although the weather was unfavorable, the fans stuck it out to watch two days of action on the track. We have been having our struggles this year with engine parts not getting along and although most has been minor inconveniences, the fact still remains we couldn’t continue on for more rounds. This plague followed us yet again to Drayton Valley with doing some major damage to the bottom end. We have the spare parts to put it back together and will definitely be out for the last race to try and recoup a top three position in the points. With only being thirty one points behind Eddy Plaizier we could possible bump him out of third spot and finish the year with some hardware. Come out on September 13-14 and watch the Nitro Harley’s and the IBAA make some noise and smoke for the final race of the year. See you all there. Don’t forget to go to www.awesomeburnouts.ca and see the rest of the result from the past five races we have attended. July 20, 2008The season is off to a great start. We have had 2 points races so far and of course the awesome IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals. In Ashcroft we qualified #5 with a 7.592. Who would have thought that running a 7.592 on a 7.50 index would put us at #5. This year is going to be very exciting with the numbers the our cars in the IBAA are running. We were knocked out first round by Jason Bussey, but then the rains came so the race was not completed. At the Father's Day weekend we qualified #2 with a 7.515. Again, we were knocked out first round by Cal Tebb - Tebb ran a 7.535 @ 152.64 and we ran 7.501 @ 189.83... must work on the reaction time Darrell. The RMN was amazing for qualifying times by the whole club. Darrell was #1 qualifier with a 7.505 and #8 was a 7.58 - the cars can't run much tighter than that. What a show! This race we made it to the semi finals, but ran under 7.50 - in this case, going too fast is not a good thing. Our next race is August long weekend in Medicine Hat. May 20, 2008VEGAS, how could you have more fun? A bit of gambling, sight seeing, and DRAG RACING at one of the best facilities in the United States. There were Seven teams going down from Edmonton and area to participate in their “Nostalgia Speed Spectacular” event. We had no trouble to speak of getting in to the track and were treated very well once we got to our respective spots. As this was our maiden run for the newly freshened engine, we were (as usual) a bit nervous and anxious to get the first pass out of the way. Friday we were given three time trials to try and hit the altered index of 7.70 not our familiar 7.50. We had some trouble with having too much fuel, but with a little tweaking, everything was fine. We qualified on Saturday number 29 out of 31. Not the best, but we were in. Sunday, with high temperatures and wind gusting to over 50 (insane) miles per hour, we won our first round on a red light. Second pass we were taken out, but later discovered that our Clutch was not working properly. (I believe that is in the excuse book under #321). We watched the remaining racers from our group get knocked out one by one and started packing up for the trip home. Thanks again to all the officials at the Vegas track for the awesome hospitality towards "the Canadians". On the following Saturday, we displayed for the 16th annual “Show n Shine” in Didsbury, Alberta. We were there to represent “Value Drug Mart”, one of our sponsors. They had over 300 cars and although the weather was not the warmest it has been, the participants enjoyed the event. Only two weeks and we'll be heading for Ashcroft, BC for our first Canadian race and the first of Seven points races in this years series. We will attempt some testing time in Edmonton before we go, but again depends on the weather???? April 2008 Welcome to our newly updated website. We have no excuse to the lack of updates last year, but promise this year we will stay on top of it. Yeah, I know you've heard that before, but this year it will happen.... Thanks to all that have given comments on our Guest Book. We look forward to reading them. We will begin our season very early with our first race in Las Vegas May 3rd. Yes, it's a long way to go to test out a fresh engine, but who can blame us for wanting to get out of the snow. We will let you know how things go. Check out this years Schedule. See you at the track!
July 17, 2007 Well race fans, we finally got one on the books. The year started out a bit wet as you all know, the weather was not in our favor. With the Fox Hunt ending early due to sprinkles and the Calgary Father’s Day Funny Car Nationals being cancelled all together due to rain, we weren’t sure what kind of points series we were going to end up with... but, Mother Nature sure turned around this weekend with temperatures above the 30 mark in Mission. As most of you know, the IBAA runs on a 7.50 index meaning we can’t run faster than that. The Canadian National Open at Mission Raceway was changed to be 7.20 index due to the low altitude the difficulty of slowing down the motors on our cars. We qualified #1 with a 7.22 @ 193 m.p.h. Although we have qualified in first position in the past this one felt really good given the change of index. We went into the first round with our usual butterflies as we haven’t had much luck getting past first round over the last season or two, but luck was on our side Sunday and we took the win against Rod Elliott with a 7.24 @ 171 m.p.h. Our second pass was against Joey Steckler, and again being a little nervous as Joey took us out last year by blowing past us at the top end. Not this year, Joey made a technical error on shifting and gave us the win. The final round was against Tim Boychuk and although we have run Tim before, it has never been in the final. Both drivers were excited about the end result and what a drag race it was. Darrell managed to leave first and cross the finish line with a 7.29 against Tim’s 7.27. We were all very excited and happy to finally win a race. As this was National Event of NHRA we received the prestigious award of a “Wally” and our winning picture will be seen in an upcoming issue of “National Dragster”. We also received coverage from local magazines and “Horsepower Heaven.com” along with a TV interview for Lucas Oil Products. We have a couple of weeks off to recoup from the long haul to Mission and back and then it’s off to Medicine Hat for another “Canadian National Open” hopefully we can bring home some more hardware to add to the collection. Hope to see you there.
June 4, 2007 Well race fans, it's that time of year again. The smell of alcohol and burning rubber is in the air and that makes race season officially open. This coming weekend we hit the track for the first race of the season... The Fox Hunt is back in Edmonton June 9th and we are ready to go. We spent the last couple of weekends at the track testing and everything is running fine. We hope to see you at the track this summer and don't forget to stop by the pit. The Schedule page is updated so check out the date we will be at a track near you. February 23, 2007 Although the winter months seem long, now that March is right around the corner, we can’t help but get excited about starting another year at some of the best tracks in Western Canada. We are attending our first car show of the year this weekend in Calgary at the “World of Wheels”. We haven’t been at this show for several years and it’s going to be fun to see some different cars or even some of the ones that appear at “Powerama” each year. Even during the winter months we are busy with racing. Each winter the entire chassis is stripped and then everything put back together from the ground up. So far we have been through a chassis re-certification along with seat belts, clutch can, clutch, and driving suit. e are in the final stages of putting our big motors together and after that getting the car back into race condition. We should be legal and rarin’ to go by the end of April. Also this winter we have been busy renovating our Motorhome (affectionately known as "The Bus") to upgrade some of the features and give us the comforts of home, given the fact it is our home away from home most every weekend during the summer. The IBAA is almost finished putting this years schedule together and we should have it posted within the next month. There are some tentative races that we are waiting for confirmation on and then it's a go. We are looking forward to seeing you at the races and don’t forget to post your comments on the guest page, we always enjoy hearing from you.
September 21, 2006 Due to last weekends cancellation, we are racing in Edmonton this weekend. It is our last chance for the points. Come see us Saturday for 2 rounds of qualifying and Sunday for eliminations. September 15, 2006 SCHEDULE CHANGE!!!! Due to the cold wet weather conditions this weekend in Medicine Hat, we will not be racing this weekend. We are trying to arrange to reschedule the race for next weekend here in Edmonton.
September 9, 2006
We have almost finished our season, Saskatoon we great as usual. Our annual trip east was very good, met by great track staff and high temperatures and a record crowd, we made our first qualifying pass with a bit of break to the rear end gears, but we managed to put everything back together to qualify in 4th place with a 7.57 however, we just can't seem to shake the first round demons and we were knocked out first round of eliminations. Drayton Valley - September long weekend and 29 degree temperatures... the track was a little tricky, not much rubber down on the new asphalt so the burnouts were not much to see and the crews had their work cut out for them trying to tune the cars to get down the track without spinning the tires. We qualified 4th again, but again in eliminations... well, I won't say it... Next weekend we're in Medicine Hat. One last try to beat the demon and get to the finals. We'll get the results posted as quick as possible after the weekend.
August 9, 2006 The last two months have just flown by, and unfortunately that means the summer is well on it’s way past too. There has been tons of stuff going on and we have been traveling more this year than the past two or three. Although the races have passed and we hope that you were there to enjoy them, we will give you a little run down of what happened. The Funny Car Nationals at Castrol Raceway were supposed to be on June 10th, but the one-day event was postponed until the Sunday due to the Stanley Cup finals. We made a couple of qualifying passes, but once again were rained out by good ol’ Mother Nature. Calgary’s Father’s Day Funny Car Nationals was much better for weather, however, we had some difficulty getting down the track. We did our best to put on a show for the fans and the track personnel were extremely helpful. As this was a points race for us, we ran an elimination style of event and we were knocked out in the semi’s due to a computer malfunction on our run. We decided a re-run was needed to determine the winner and on our second pass the car just didn’t want to go in the right direction. After a sharp left and then an immediate right, and little bit of bouncing then straight down the track it went. Much too late to win of course, but there was no damage done except a few holes in the header pipes from dragging. For once, the weather cooperated and we had a fantastic weekend out at Castrol Raceway for the Rocky Mountain Nationals. It is so cool to see all the Top Fuel and Nitro Funny Cars attend as well as being able to participate amongst them. We did however, get bit by the big RED bulb on the semi-final pass and if that doesn’t make you a little peeved, the other guy broke out and ran a 7.49. I don’t think any of us remembered the last time we had a red light and it had to be then. Our luck just keeps getting better and better. Let’s hope the rest of the season picks up. After a few weekends off to catch up on the household necessities (you know, yard work), we were off to Mission Raceway. This has got to be one of the best facilities to race at in Western Canada. The track is as smooth as glass and the staff are terrific. We had no trouble what so ever with the car. We ran consistently in the low 7.50’s and were confident that we could make it to the finals. WRONG, just when you think you got the other guy beat, he blows by you like your standing still and beats you by 6 one hundreds of a second. But, that’s racing. From Mission we took the rest of the week off and made our way down to Seattle for the NHRA Nationals on July 21, 22, & 23. We went there to make some exhibition passes for Lucas Oil and the car ran perfectly. Our first pass was an extra long burn-out that the fans just went nuts over and then the actual pass was a 7.43. It was so straight, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Our second pass was a bit slower due to the burst panel just splitting enough to let the boost our of the blower. It must have gone at the top end because we still ran a 7.56. We had great response from all the fans that came by and they wished there were more of our kind of body style there to put on a show. Maybe next year we can get something together. On July 29th we did a display to help collect money for the Edmonton Stollery Children's Hospital. We enjoy helping out fund raisers such as this, as it helps everyone and creates an awareness of all the needs of the children in our communities. So that’s it in a nut shell, we are getting prepared for the upcoming race at Castrol Raceway for the CMDRA Bike drags on August 12 & 13. We have our fingers crossed for good weather and great attendance. Hope to see you there.
June 1, 2006
RAIN, RAIN, RAIN.... That’s about all we can say for the weekend in Seattle. For any of you that have travelled to Seattle you know that it isn’t that bad of a drive, however, to drive that far and sit for three days... yes, three days in the rain is a bit unnerving. We felt bad for the staff and the Goodguys as this has been their third rainout this year already. We did manage to get some great exposure on the Nova and a couple of magazines will be putting pictures in their upcoming issues. Since we only did a warm up in Seattle, we are ready for the next race here in Edmonton for the Funny Car Shootout at Castrol Raceway on June 10th. Our fingers are crossed for good weather and a chance to get down the track one more time. Hope to see you there. Go to our Guestbook and give us your comments. We enjoy hearing from you.
May 16, 2006We are well underway in getting prepped for racing. With Powerama come and gone, we have had huge comments about the new body. or all you Corvette lovers, we haven’t retired the old body, just put it off to the side for a bit. Change is good sometimes, but we can always go back. We are also able to interchange in case something happens to one of them... knock wood. We had our first display of the year in Didsbury Alberta for their 14th Annual Car Show. They had a terrific turn out of cars with at least 240 entries. This was an excellent venue being on the golf course area with grass and trees. The people there are great and make us feel welcome whenever we attend. May 15th, Castrol Raceway , how excited do you think we were when the Nova went down the track for the first time? We had visions of it going slow because it’s quite a bit heavier and wider than the Corvette is. The burnout was nothing to write home about, but the run was fantastic. A 7.54 right out of the box, fairly straight and no carnage. We have a few adjustments to make on the oil pressure and we are good to go. Great job on the tune-up by our crew Bob and Jeremy, they have things figured out already.
Our first race is May 27 in Seattle for the Goodguys event. We are looking forward to that. We heard from the group that went last year, they had a blast. We will be back in Edmonton for the Funny Car Showdown at Castrol Raceway on June 10th. Hope to see you there. From then on we will be fairly busy over the summer hitting all the familiar tracks as well as some new ones. Check out our schedule and be sure to come out on the events where we are in your area. Happy racing to all and keep the shiny side up. SPONSORS MAKE OUR WHEELS GO ‘ROUND
Hey race fans!!! We are getting into race mode and are putting the final touches on the car to get ready for Powerama at the end of April. We have to apologize for the lack of updates over the course of the winter, but we really didn’t have much to report. We want to thank all our sponsors for coming on again this year to support our fantastic sport and let us promote you and your companies to all of our fans at every track we attend. We encourage all of you to come out and see for yourselves just how much fun we have and how easy it is to get hooked on “Drag Racing”. We have put together a tentative schedule for the upcoming season. We will indicate any races that are confirmed or still in a tentative status by color coding the event and date. We are looking forward to another great year of racing and plan on hitting some extra tracks this year along with some special events to help promote new tracks that are in the building stages. The “NOVA BODY” which has been in hiding and somewhat of a question mark as to when it will be done, is in it’s final stages of paint at the body shop. So, it should (keep your fingers crossed) be ready for the unveiling at Powerama complete with all our sponsors decals. This has been a long time coming and we are looking forward to putting it on the chassis for the first time and running it down the track. Stay tuned for more details on what is happening and don’t forget to save your pennies for the Fourth Annual “Rocky Mountain Nationals”. We are putting our order in now for SUN, SUN, SUN.
